Reasons to recycle ink and toner cartridges
Whenever ones printer runs out of ink, many people just throw the cartridge away and do not recycle them. This, however, is not the right way to dispose of empty ink cartridges. You should always recycle ink cartridges. The top five reasons to do this are listed below.
First reason to recycle is that each cartridge that is able to be recycled will save almost 3 pounds of natural resources that would otherwise be used to make a new cartridge.
The second reason is to help with the world oil crisis. If you have visited the pumps recently you will see how high demand and low supply effects oil prices. Each cartridge recycled saves us 3.5 ounces of oil and with the amount of ink cartridges being used each day, this can add up quickly.
The third reason is to reduce landfills which are filling up quickly. These cartridges are not bio degradable and therefore will just sit in any landfill for hundreds of years. Inkjet cartridges produced 75,000 tons of waste each year and it can only be reduced if we recycle properly.
The fourth reason is that recycling cartridges will save us money. Even if you are not environmentally concerned with the impact of cartridges, then you can be economically motivated as most of us are when it comes to money. We all notice the high price of ink and we can all do our part to reduce these by recycling cartridges. Refilled ink cartridges are made by companies and resold at a lower price and they perform at the same high quality as new ink cartridges.
The last reason to consider recycling ink cartridges is that it is fast and easy to recycle. Some recycling efforts are painstaking but all you have to do is to drop off old ink cartridges in the store when you return to buy new ones.
